Two noble reds, two philosophies
Piedmont
Nebbiolo- Barolo & Barbaresco DOCG
- Pale, fierce tannin & acid, ages decades
- Tar, rose, dried cherry
- Single-vineyard 'cru' culture
Tuscany
Sangiovese- Chianti Classico, Brunello DOCG
- Sour cherry, herbs, savoury
- High acid, food-friendly
- Brunello = 100% Sangiovese, long ageing
◉
Barolo ≠ Barbaresco
Same grape (Nebbiolo), neighbouring zones: Barolo is generally bigger and needs longer ageing; Barbaresco is a touch more approachable. Both now celebrate named vineyards (MGA/'crus').
