Laphroaig

No whisky divides a room faster. Laphroaig's malt is dried over peat cut from its own banks, and the resulting dram is famously medicinal — TCP, iodine, seaweed and ash over a sweet vanilla heart. The distillery leans into the controversy ('Is this taste even legal?' ran one campaign), and its Friends of Laphroaig own square-foot plots of Islay. A whisky that makes converts precisely because it refuses to compromise.
