Spain's most famous region
Rioja, in northern Spain, is the country's benchmark red — built on Tempranillo and defined by its tradition of long oak ageing. It's one of only two regions with Spain's top DOCa status.
- Mainly Tempranillo, often with Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo.
- Traditionally aged in American oak, giving vanilla, coconut and dill notes.
- Styles range from juicy young reds to silky, savoury Gran Reservas.
