Two systems on one label
German labels can carry two ideas at once: ripeness (the Prädikat) and sweetness (dry or not). They're related but not the same — a ripe Spätlese can be made dry or sweet.
◉
Prädikat = must weight
Prädikat levels rank ripeness (must weight) at harvest: Kabinett → Spätlese → Auslese → Beerenauslese (BA) → Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA). Eiswein matches BA-level ripeness but is picked frozen. The top levels are intensely sweet rarities.
