When Archie Rose opened in Rosebery in 2014, it was the first new distillery in the city of Sydney since 1853. Founder Will Edwards built it around an obsessive grain programme: the signature Rye Malt Whisky uses malted rye — rare anywhere in the world — for a rounder, more aromatic take on the spiciest grain, and it was named World's Best Rye at the 2020 World Whiskies Awards barely a year after release. The single malt goes further still, mashing six differently treated malts, one smoked over native red gum wood.
