Speyside: the establishment
Glenfiddich, The Glenlivet and Macallan — the three best-selling single malts on earth — are all Speysiders. The house moves are orchard fruit and honey in ex-bourbon casks, or dried fruit and spice when sherry wood takes over. When someone says a whisky tastes 'classically Scottish', they usually mean classically Speyside.
Two Speyside families to remember: the light and fruity (Glenlivet, Glen Grant) and the rich and sherried (Macallan, GlenDronach-style, Aberlour).
